Who We Are

Imagine thousands of courageous men and women of all races and ranks following Jesus, representing Him through relationships where they live, work, and train for war, both at home and on deployment. Imagine influencing our nation’s first responders, the police officers, fire fighters, and emergency technicians who daily step into tense situations. Imagine no more. Welcome to Navs Military.

We work alongside chaplains and other Christian ministries to teach, counsel, and make disciples among military personnel, first responders and their families.

Many of us have served in these communities and understand their challenges and complexities. We provide the hope of Jesus to men and women and minister to them in a way that is relevant to their life situations.

History

In 1933, Dawson Trotman, a young lumberyard worker in California, realized the importance of discipleship in his own life. He began working among U.S. sailors in California, sharing with them what it looks like to live a Christian life.

Trotman met sailor Les Spencer and they spent many hours together praying, studying the Bible and memorizing passages. One of Spencer’s shipmates noticed the changes in his life and he asked him what happened. Spencer brought the man to Trotman and said, ‘Teach him what you taught me.”

“You teach him!” Trotman responded, emphasizing the responsibility of every Christian to share their faith.

Spencer did and the movement grew until 125 men on his ship, the U.S.S. West Virginia, were growing in their relationships with Christ and actively telling others about Jesus.

By the end of WWII thousands of men on ships and bases around the world were making followers of Jesus Christ through one-on-one teaching.

The movement Trotman began grew so that nearly 80 years later The Navigators are sharing their faith in 100 countries around the world. The Navs Military is a branch of The Navigators that serves military personnel, first responders and their families across the US and the world.

Mission

Military Navigators help their friends walk with Jesus, spiritually investing in and equipping them as Kingdom laborers, so they may pass it on to others in their everyday lives, resulting in the fruit of spiritual generations.

We hope to see thousands of men and women in the military come to know Jesus Christ and have a growing relationship with Him.

We want to continue the work Dawson Trotman started in 1933 by training disciples of Jesus Christ through one-on-one teaching, mentoring, and relationships.

We strive to equip the individuals we impact with the spiritual tools to spread the message and teaching of Jesus Christ to others in their homes, communities, bases, and places of deployment. We are committed to following our friends into “all of life” – equipping and coaching – laboring and living where God has called us to “be”.

2 Timothy 2:1-2 “So my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you have heard from me – the whole congregation saying Amen! – to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others.”
